Manipulation with the csw

Author Tereza Dohnalova - please excuse some possible typos and grammatical mistakes, also be informed that this article is based on my experiences and observations.

One of the main principles of peaceful living with czechoslovakian wolfdog is the non-problematic possibility to have physical contact with the dog. Because it's all the same every year.

In the season of puppies there are a lot of new owners, who have no idea or information about their new animal at all. For now, they have a beautiful puppy looking like a wolf and they don't want to hear anything else.
Some of the breed specific have been already mentioned in Living with czechoslovakian wolfdog puppy.

What i constantly tell to my owners and of course all those interested in the CSW is that there is not only training and strict rules about what the dog can do and what he can't. Equally important is to get the dog used to being manipulated - from the very first day spent at a new place.CSW puppies are wolfish in nature. Once they owner starts to manipulate with them, they will growl or they will bite. They quite fast lose their temper and then are returned to breeder as ''aggressive dog''.

As usual, never is the dog to blame. It's always the owner.

What we want from our dog we need to teach him first.
We didn't choose golden retrievers but wild wolfdogs, didn't we.

Czechoslovakian wolfdog is strong-willed and stubborn breed, they have their own mind, their own opinions and tendency to let the things be solved their way. And once something is not going their way, they usually do sign their displease by a little of defiant growl.

Unfortunately a lot of owners link this kind of behaviour with aggressivity. Every growl, every tooth shown, every displeased action by the puppy is being understood as sign of so called dominance.
You are not going to accept without protests everything happening to you either.

What would happen if some 16 years old teenager would be publicly embarassed by his grandma with kisses and hugs? Hell yeah, he will protest.

Dog in his nature is a predator. A beast of prey. He can't speak human words unfortunately, so all he can is to try to communicate as mother nature taught him. He growls, he bares teeth, he bristles. But all of this can be eliminated by proper training.

Dog needs to know what we want from him. We need him to know that this is nothing new, nothing dangerous. That everything is OK. Then, he will have no need to be alarmed or irritated.
It's just kind of a habit

We need to find common ground and common speak with the dog so we can coexist in a flat. So he can live with us as a partner.
But our touches and request should never be displeasing.

Lets see now what can we do with the dog.

Touching of every body part - bending, setting dog to requested position while lying on the ground

Very important is a thorough socialisation to children, seniors, people on wheelchairs and so on. CSW is distrustful by its nature and he needs to meet as much as possible in a young age.

Car - this is very important. The best way is to let the dog know the car as a way to entertainment, adventures and friends.  Learn the puppy to travel in trunk, leashed on rear seats, to travel alone or with other dog. This is best way to prevent dog from puking all over the car once grown up :)

Catching the tail - could be useful as last ditch attempt to stop the dog going out to pick a fight with other dog. If the dog is used for his tail to be catched, he won't turn around in surprise and try to bite you.

Pillow - could be useful as well, dog should feel OK and let you lay your head on him

Checking the testicles - male dog should let people to check his testicles. This will be definitely useful on dog shows or bonitations

Checking the penis - during growing up and puberty, inflammation can occur and if not treated, could proceed to chronic state and render dog infertile.
Dog penis should be pink without signs of redness, pimples or blisters and without signs of yellow or green discharge.
